HOW I GAVE UP BREATHING

I gave up breathing about twenty years ago. That is, I stopped thinking of breathing as something I needed to do in order to survive. The simple truth that came to me then, is that there is nothing I needed to do about the breath -- except relax and allow myself to be breathed. SIX-DAYS OF QUIET AND MEDITATION

View of Garden at Glencomeragh Retreat Centre

This Summer I will be leading two six-day meditation programmes, both based on my book The Art of Allowing. These retreats will be an occasion for relaxing and meditating in beautiful surroundings. An atmosphere of silence is encouraged. And because the group will not be too big, there will be opportunities for individual guidance on the breath and meditation.
People who have done these retreats in the past have made comments like, “It made me aware that breathing is natural and does not need any effort on my part”; and, “The actual process of letting the breathing just be is symbolic for me of how life can be if I just trust that God is with me”.

There are two of these residential retreats:
  1. July 10 – 16, 2011 at Glencomeragh House, Kilsheelan, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary; Tel: 052-33181; Fax: 052-33636; email: theglen@rosminians.iol.ie. See www.glencomeragh.ie
  2. 2. August 22 - 29, 2011 at Myross Wood, Leap, West Cork; Tel 028-33118; email: mscmyross@eircom.net. Web: www.myrosswood.ie

NEW WEBSITE IS NOW OPEN

My renewed website is now open - though it still remains a work in progress. It can be accessed via bodymindmeditation.ie OR artofallowing.ie OR breathoflife.ie OR louishughes.ie.
This site was designed in Poznan, Poland by Bogna Bialecka. I got to know Bogna in the 1990s through her involvement in the international Dominican Youth Movement at that time. She created the  beautiful design for the original Body-Mind Meditation website in 2001. Because of her deep understanding of this spirituality, as well as her artistic gifts, she was the person I most wanted to re-design the site to incorporate The Art of Allowing. Thank you Bogna for a job well done! Thanks also to Ciaran O'Shea, who provide crucial technical assistance and who also provided maintenance for the site in recent years.
